#1. 10050 Cielo Drive – Beverly Hills

If you went back to the 1900s, a French Normandy-style house standing at the dead-end of Cielo Drive represented much more than just a residential house.

After the dusk of August 9, 1969, the house became synonymous with the most horrifying and evil act ever executed in the history of America.

And, when we talk about unbelievable evil and impossible-to-forget murders, the picture of America’s criminal icon comes to our mind: Charles Manson.

I guess the name itself is so popular among true crime lovers that I don’t think I need to recount how the house at 10050 Cielo Drive transformed into a mansion of horrors plagued with mutilated bodies.

So, for those who are more fascinated and less disgusted by the brutal spiral of murders, you have the possibility to take a look at the now-renovated house, where once stood the “death house” built by the notorious cult leader Charles Manson and his followers.

#2. The Last Resort Bar – Port Orange

Before you start creating any blood-chilling story in your mind, let me inform you that no crime was actually committed in this bar (sorry to disappoint all true-crime aficionados).

However, to comfort your crime-obsessed mind, I’d like to add how visiting and having a drink at this place where Aileen Wuornos, an American serial killer, was arrested might arouse your interest.

Wait, what? Really?

Yes, really!

Born in 1956, Aileen “Lee” Carol Wuornos grew up as a sexually abused teenager and was eventually thrown out of the house, only to end up as a sex worker in Florida. Aileen marks her place in America’s criminal history when she mercilessly takes the lives of seven men in Florida between 1989 and 1990.

The only way to get closer to this gruesome event is to have a “chilling” drink at the bar while admiring the picture of the perpetrator, which sits right in the center of the place.

#3. The Sixth Floor Museum – Dallas

Huh, what’s so special about a museum? And, where’s the connection between fear-arousing crime and this “antique piece”?

Situated on the sixth level of the building (as it goes by the name), this museum has absorbed and witnessed the darkest time in American history.

Why don’t we test your knowledge of history?

Here’s the question: What’s the name of the famous and public US figure who was assassinated on November 22, 1963?

If you guessed John F. Kennedy, give yourself one point.

The Sixth Floor Museum is believed to have not only seen the tragic murder of the former President Kennedy but to have also hosted the murderer, Lee Harvey Oswalt.

There’s no better way to relive that atrocious time than to walk through this museum.

#4. Villisca Ax Murder House – Iowa

Villisca ax murder. The name itself sounds bone-chilling. Now imagine walking through the doors of such a place.

The tragic story goes back to 1912, in Iowa, where six members of the Moore family and two guests were thrashed and killed with an ax.

Not just any typical local crime story, isn’t it?

But, I’m sure what will bring you to the edge of your seat is how despite a lengthy murder investigation, the crime remains unsolved.

Ooh, sounds pretty exciting, right?

Even though the house was renovated, later on, being featured in the list of the National Register of Historic Places, it is now open for visitors.

And, to make things more exciting, here’s a little overview from if you actually dare to step in the house:

“A house where such gruesome murders took place will obviously host a number of troubled souls and dark secrets. Not ten, not twenty, but most visitors reported ghostly happenings like loud footsteps and things moving. During his visit, a man named Robert Laursen Jr. was claimed to be possessed by a demonic force as he stabbed himself in the chest.”
