Why is Africa so little known as a tourist destination? We don’t know! Beyond the negative news and tabloids, we can find several African countries full of contrasts, with an enviable nature… Imagine that even the Seychelles are in Africa! They have the most beautiful beaches in the world. But the continent’s surprises do not end there: it also has the largest desert in the world! What other surprises do African cities have in store for us? Read more!

Cape Town, South Africa

Cape Town, so multicultural and characterised as the largest destination for immigrants and expats in South Africa, is becoming one of the most famous cities in Africa. Its main attraction is Lion’s Head Mountain, which is said to be in the shape of a reclining lion. What do you think?

Cape Town also has beautiful beaches, there are several options depending on where you are, but the most recommended are Clifton Beach and Camps Bay Beach. The strong winds make it a great experience for all kinds of water sports! Not to mention the sunsets, which are a spectacle of colour.

It is a perfect city for those who love the outdoors and nature activities. The best way to get around this city and visit its main attractions is by taxi or the popular Uber app, although we warn you that this can be a little expensive. Want to check out other cities in South Africa?

Cairo, Egypt

Do you love antiquities, history and culture? Then you should take several trips to Egypt! It is unlikely that you will be able to discover all that Egypt has to offer in a single trip, as the country is full of contrasts and cities that are very different from each other, but of great archaeological value. This time we are talking about Cairo, the city that receives the most visitors every year.

Located on the banks and islands of the Nile, south of the Delta, it is the largest city in the Arab world. It has been ruled by 31 dynasties and has had as many women as men in power. The most famous is Cleopatra, but there have been others who are important in Egyptian history today.

What can you expect in Cairo? See the world’s oldest stone structure, built in 2650 BC: the Step Pyramid of Djoser, which is believed to have laid the foundations for the construction of Egypt’s iconic pyramids. The latter, despite being one of the most studied elements by experts, remain unknown. In fact, until recently they were thought to be pharaonic tombs (although no sarcophagus has been found).

In recent months, however, a new theory about the pyramid complex has emerged. According to new research, they are a large power station. Is this true? Would the Egyptians have known about this form of energy? There are still questions to be answered, but the evidence suggests that one of the materials used in their construction was dolomite, a material known throughout the world to increase electrical conductivity. This new discovery is marvellous!

Another fact that supports this theory is that the pyramids are built right on top of underground rivers, which were probably the sources of energy. What do you think?

Tunisia

Now we discover the cities of North Africa! Tunisia is one of the cities in Africa that combines walled medinas, mosques, desert and beaches. Haven’t you been there yet? This city can be a different destination, although the whole of the Tunisian Republic is in fact a spectacle.

In Tunis, you can visit a museum with over 100 years of history, the National Bardo Museum, which costs 11 TND to enter. You can also visit the medina of Tunis, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979. Want to get away from the heat and the hustle and bustle? Head to the Belvedere Park or the Habib Thameur Garden!
