7 Things to See & Do in Thulusdhoo

Is the Maldives also on your bucket list? We totally understand! You may just be afraid that it is costly. A vacation in the Maldives does not have to be that expensive. Instead of going to a luxury resort, you can stay on a local island like Thulusdhoo. Thulusdhoo is less touristy but has beautiful white sand beaches and is considered one of the best surf spots in the Maldives. It takes about 30 minutes by boat from the airport. Are you curious about what you can see and do in Tulusdhoo? We have compiled a list of recommended activities for you!

1) Relax & Snorkel at Bikini Beach

Since the Maldives is a Muslim country, it is forbidden to walk around in short dresses or bikinis, especially on local islands like Tulusdhoo. Therefore, the “Bikini Beach” was conceived. On this beach, tourists are allowed to wear bikinis.

Bikini Beach is a nice place to relax and one of the most beautiful places to snorkel. The corals are not that special, but the thousands of fish swimming around will keep you entertained for hours. Sometimes you can even see stingrays and sharks swimming off the beach.

2) Explore the Island by Renting a Bicycle

Although the island is only 3 km long, it is nice to explore it by renting a bicycle. On the west side of the island are the pearly white beaches, Dream Beach, and Sunset Beach (be sure to wear a long swimsuit if swimming here!).

We will also pass by the Coca-Cola factory on the island. This Coca-Cola factory is the only one in the world that uses desalinated seawater.

3) Book a Snorkeling Tour

Snorkeling is recommended in Tulusdhoo. Take a snorkeling tour to Shark Point or Manta Point. It is 100% recommended to do this with a local fisherman. This way, you can point out what you want to see, and they will guide you to the best spots. You may see sharks, manta rays, and many other underwater creatures if you are lucky.

4) Encounter Wild Dolphins

Wild dolphins regularly appear off the coast of Bikini Beach and are often spotted at dusk. Unfortunately, you cannot see them from land, but you can express your desire to see them during your snorkeling tour (though this cannot be guaranteed). One tip: If you spot dolphins, continue to the nearby sandbar.

5) Relax on the Sandy Beach Near Tulusdhoo

Right next to Thulusdhoo is a sandbar, a great place to watch the sunset. Like other places where wild dolphins can be seen, this sandbar can only be reached by boat. Many tourists are still unaware of it, so you will likely be alone and relaxing on the beach!

6) Surfing

Want to surf during your Maldives vacation? Thulusdhoo is the best place in the Maldives for surfing. There are several places where you can surf here. If you are an experienced surfer, the best time to go is between March and October. During the surfing season, the waves can be high and difficult for beginners; surfing lessons are available from December to April.

7) Visit the Island for a Day of Sightseeing

Want to experience the ultimate sensation of Maldives? Then just go to the resort island for a day. You will be picked up by boat in the early morning and spend the day at a nearby luxury resort. At 100 euros per person, it’s not cheap, but meals and drinks are often included. Day trips to island resorts, such as Cinnamon Dhonveli Maldives, can be simply organized from Thulusdhoo.
